POISON ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If the word “accident” only brings to mind falls, burns, shocks and bruises, think ‘POISONING’! A number of toxins could be lurking within your home – and they could all be dangerous for your little ones.
Poisons in your home?
· Painkillers such as aspirin, paracetemol and certain antibiotics, often in the form of colourful little capsules and tablets.
· Cleaning materials such as phenol, furniture cleaners and liquid soap, as well as certain strong alkalis, can prove hazardous.
· Moth or naphthalene balls, kerosene, petroleum, ether, gasoline and turpentine, all contain hydrocarbons which can be fatal if ingested by children younger than five.
· BEWARE especially of certain deadly drugs, for example, coniine, an anti-hypertensive prescribed only for children over five to treat bed-wetting and hyperactivity. A SINGLE PILL CAN KILL A ONE TO THREE-YEAR-OLD CHILD.
WATCH OUT……..

Safety measures:
· Lock your medicine cabinets and hide the key in a safe place.
· Recognize that you will be more careless when you are stressed, so be extra careful on busy days.
· Keep cleaning liquids, kerosene, moth balls, etc. out of reach.
· Never refer to drugs as sweets.
· Check the bottle caps- they may be loosely fitted.
· Double check the correct dosage for children’s medicine.
***** Watch out for repeating poisonings. Children who swallow a poison are likely to do it again within a year******
